Talking to your kids about Coronavirus!

cornavirus mask on child

Hi Mummies

Just would like to know how much you are telling your children about the coronavirus.  I have a 7 year old and an 11 year old boy. My 11 year old seems quite relaxed about it all hes just happy to be off school and sleeping in late. My 7 year old seems really stressed about it and wants to talk non stop asking questions I dont even know the answers to myself. I try to reaasure him all the time everything will be ok and I will not open the news when he is around as this sets my anxiety off never mind his. Would be so grateful to hear what you are telling your children, any advice would be brilliant, thanks!

This is so hard, my child is 6 years old so she kind of understands, kind of not. I explain to her that there are a lot of sick poorly people outside at the moment, so we have to wait for everyone to get better so we dont get poorly and sick. Try not get anxious about the situation as we are all going through it together, the whole world. Kids are so clever they can pick up on our anxiety and stress. It’s such a sad same sending love your way <3

I have been in the same situation my kids are little younger than yours, I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old. My two year old doesnt have a clue what is going on and is just happy to be at home spending time with her big brother as he is normally im school. My 5 year old keeps asking why we cant go outside I explain to him “its not very safe outside at the moment as there are alot of poorly people and if we go outside then we can get poorly so lets play lots of games in the house and in the garden and when its safe outside I will take you wherever you want to go.” He seems ok with this but finding it the hardest that his daddy is not with us at the moment, his dad is a doctor and is staying on his own during all of this as we want to keep our children safe as we can but daddy has to work. It is hard for us all now not just the children but children do pick up on our stress so lets not to be stressed and keep the news off as much as you can infront of the children.
