I drove 3 hours to find formula for my baby due to Stockpilers!

Toddler lying on his back on a leather chair drinking milk

My baby is now 6 months old, I stopped exclusively breastfeeding about 3 weeks ago. My milk supply is so low now I am lucky to even pump 1oz a day…

I thought I would begin formula feeding as my baby just didn’t seem satisfied with my breastmilk anymore. As soon she started on formula she would sleep better and generally was much more content.

Well, if only i had a magic crystal ball to predict this pandemic then I would never have made the switch. Due to panic shoppers people have been wiping the shelves of baby products, nappies, wipes and most importantly…baby formula!!!

When I was in the shop I spotted about 3 different women with a trolly packed to the brim with toilet rolls, nappies and around 15 tubs of baby formula. There wasn’t even one tub on the shelf for me, I pleaded with this woman to just give me one tub for my hungry baby and she was not interested. She did not care.

I understand mums putting their family first, of course any family would, BUT to allow other babies to go hungry due to greediness and buying more than what you need is SO wrong.

I don’t think people realise how serious a shortage of formula really is. I was in tears almost having a panic attack wondering how I will be able to feed my baby. I was down to my last 3 bottles of milk and knew if I didn’t find milk today my baby would go hungry.

I drove to about 10 different shops and still nothing. In the end I had to drive 3 hours to a store that had just 2 tubs of formula…

Every baby deserves to be fed… Please take only what you need.

From a heartbroken anonoymous mummy.

This is so sad to read and makes me so angry!! As a mother you should understand how desperately another mum has to feed their child! Let’s hope it all calms down soon, it really is bringing the worst out in people! X

This is so heartbreaking to read! I am so sorry you had to go through that but what an amazing mum you are! These panic buyers need to stop they are causing trouble for everyone. I understand buying more than you need to last longer so your not going the shops all the time but there is no need to buy months supplies! If people have read this post and dont stop panic buying then they should feel ashamed of themselves.

Oh no, this is so sad. im so sorry for you. I have a feeling the panic buying is only going to get worse as the peak hits 🙁 but hopefully the government will now step up to the supply and demand process, now they are prepared for the panic buyers they can order in more stock… also they should put in place measures of max 4 tubs of formula per person. thats roughly a months worth of milk depending on how many bottles they have.
I hope this hasn’t happened for you again since

this is terrible. i can understand why people are buying more than they need because this time is so uncertain, and nobody really knows what’s round the corner. I personally would buy no more than 3-4 tubs which is around 3-4 weeks worth. I think people who are buying 10-20 tubs of formula, clearing the shelves are incredibly selfish. No baby should be hungry. I hope you are able to get some okay, perhaps try ordering batches online?
