Breastfeeding

I am a big believer of breast is best and it is the best thing for your baby for the first few months in life but bloody helll no one warned me what I was in for with it! DEMAND DEMAND DEMAND, unlike formula feeding you cant schedule feeds so that means mummy is on stand by 24/7 sometimes every 15, 20 , 30 minutes other times 1 or 2 hours but my little girl would not go any longer than 2 hours without having the boob! I had plugged ducts, mastitis and two big circles on all my tops from leakage for the first 6 weeks. AND WHYY is it so hard to find breastfeeding friendly cafes or restaurants. I ended up feeding my baby in costa toilets because they had no where for me to breastfeed and I did not feel comfortable in public. Another time I asked a shop if there was anywhere I could feed my baby and they take me to the staff room which was full and said ” the kettle is just there , help yourself” Well this said it all for me she thought I ment bottle feed and this room was  full with men and I was not going to whip my boob out so off I went into another toilet to feed my baby. This needs to be changed there needs to be more breastfeeding rooms nothing special just a small room with a chair in thats all we want to feed our babies. My little girl is 7 months old now and we have weaned off the boob for mummy’s sanity. MUMMY NEEDS A BREAK! what did you mummies find the hardest about breastfeeding, or did you formula feed?

Well done Mama for breastfeeding for 7 months thats brilliant you gave your baby the best you could for the most important part of their life. I only managed to feed my little girl for 6 weeks as she suffered badly with colic and she is now on a dairy free formula which has helped a lot with colic. I do get judged a lot and a lot of people asking me why are you not breastfeeding which is so rude and hurts mothers feelings as they dont know the situation. All us mummy’s should support each other as fed is best is my eyes.

I breastfed my little boy until he was nearly 2 and I was soo emotional weaning him off it even after 2 years, it is the most magical experience knowing you are able to feed your baby. I am a really big believer that it also helps the immune system for the first 6 months of life. I am not against bottle feeding I think that is everyones own decision and you know what is best for your own baby.

My daughter is 8 months and is breastfed.

I can honestly say I’ve never had a negative comment about feeding her in public. Have you had anybody say anything or is it just because you feel uncomfortable?

There are lots of really clever breastfeeding clothes and covers now so you shouldn’t feel like you are exposing yourself.

I don’t know if you express either but you can always take a bottle of expressed milk if you are unsure of finding somewhere comfortable for you and baby.

amazing well done, i too believe that breast is best! formula is full of all sorts, high levels of arsenic and not to mention the fact they can last for years on a shelf? its basically fast food for babies! well done for trying your best to give your baby the best <3
my baby is currently 4 and half months old and i too felt nervous about breastfeeding in public but now i really dont mind it, i will do it pretty much anywhere if i have to. i have a cover which tbh i think attracts more attention, a muslin cloth swept over the shoulder and across the boob does the trick discretely! x
